Protenia S.A., is a biotech company devoted to recombinant protein engineering & production. Protenia is located in Ifrane, a Swiss-style village surrounded by verdant cedar forests of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Being based within Al Akhawayn University, and 60 km far from Universities of Fès and Meknès, Protenia will benefit from this attractive environment for its development. Protenia has a fermentation capacity of approx. 100 L. Protenia has many labs :

• Molecular Biology for cloning, construction of vectors etc,
• Biochemistry for control and protein analysis,
• Fermentation (P2) for bacterial culture,
• Fermentation (P2) for yeast culture,
• Extraction and Purification of proteins (up to 1g).

Protenia offers a broad range of tailor made services, intended for pharmaceutical laboratories, Biotech companies, but also for academic laboratories and institutions (CNRS, INSERM, INRA, Universities...).

A Unique History
Dr. Hakim Kharrat who founded MilleGen, a biotech company specialised in engineering of recombinant antibodies, decided with Dr. Abdeslam Choua in 2005 to start the first biotechnology company in Morocco.

Awards
Protenia received the Price of the Young Innovator during the meeting of Skhirat on “Intégrales de l’Investissement” in 2006.
